Sometimes talking to strangers can actually pay off. A Maryland woman won a $100,000 lottery prize and she has a stranger’s kind advice to thank for it.
The 51-year-old Silver Spring local usually purchases $2 tickets on her grocery shopping excursions.
“It felt weird paying $5 for a lottery ticket, so I stuck to the lower-priced games,” she said. “I did pretty well with them, too.”
As she was perusing the tickets, a wise stranger encouraged her to consider more expensive tickets. According to him, the tickets had better prizes. After heeding his advice, she opted for a different ticket.
“I figured, why not?” she said. “I always scratch my tickets at home, always,” she said. “But this time, I did it right there.”
She and the stranger were shocked to realize the ticket was worth $100,000.
“He started yelling,” she said. “There were a lot of people in there and in a minute or two, they were all gathering around to congratulate me.”
The anonymous lady stated that she plans to use her winning for home renovations.
