Most people can count on a belly full of turkey this weekend. Well, that and awkward family dinner conversations. The Ehrenberg family, however, will be enjoying more than turkey. Thanks to a holiday clean up, they may be inclined to say that Christmas came early.
Tina and Harold Ehrenberg, of Mandeville, Louisiana, were prepping their home for the upcoming Thanksgiving festivities. They were expecting family guests to arrive. It was then they discovered some old lottery tickets on a nightstand.
The old ticket, purchased on June 6th, almost fell by the wayside. Prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Luckily, the couple found them in the nick of time. The tickets were due to expire within the next two weeks.
The Ehrenbergs checked their ticket numbers on the lottery’s website. The couple was shocked to discover one was a winner worth $1.8 million.
“The most fun is going to be depositing that check,” Harold Ehrenberg said.
The Ehrenbergs will claim a prize of $1,274,313 after taxes. They do not have any extravagant plans for the newfound wealth though.
“We don’t have any plans to buy anything crazy or go on any big trips,” Tina Ehrenberg said.
The couple plans to save the funds for retirement.
